Mealime shut down: where your recipes went and what to use now

Mealime shut down on October 21, 2026. Its owner, Albertsons Companies, moved Mealime's recipe catalog into Meals Hub, a free feature inside Albertsons-owned grocery apps and websites such as Safeway and Vons. Mealime deleted personal accounts, including favorites and meal plans, at shutdown and never offered an export. The recipes themselves still exist in Meals Hub, and you can save any of them into another app from there.

Good fork in replacement of Mealime

Short answer: Mealime shut down on October 21, 2026.

We built Good Fork, a meal planning app, and it comes up later in this post. We also used Mealime for three years before we built it, so we have opinions about what it did well, and we've labeled them as ours.

Why did Mealime shut down?

Mealime's closing notice says Albertsons Companies, which has owned the app since 2021, is moving Mealime's recipes and meal planning into Meals Hub inside its grocery apps. The notice presents this as a way to bring the planning experience to more shoppers through the store apps. It doesn't give a financial reason, and we won't guess at one.

Mealime's original founders have since announced a new meal planner called Cookroom. As of this writing it's a waitlist with no launch date.

What happened to my saved recipes and meal plans?

Mealime's recipe catalog survived the move. Every Mealime recipe went to Meals Hub, including the ones that used to require Pro, and Meals Hub is free to use.

Your personal data didn't make the move. Mealime said it would delete all personal data at shutdown, and it didn't offer an account transfer. Favorites, notes, past meal plans and saved grocery lists are gone, and Mealime never built an export button. If you set up dietary preferences in Mealime, you'll need to enter them again wherever you go next.

If you paid for Mealime Pro, Mealime said subscribers won't be charged again. It's still worth checking the subscriptions page in your App Store or Google Play account to make sure nothing renews.

How do I find my old Mealime recipes now?

Your favorites list is gone, but the recipes are in Meals Hub. On the web, go to safeway.com/meal-plans-recipes/guest or albertsons.com/meal-plans-recipes/guest and search for the dish by name. In the Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco or other Albertsons Companies apps, Meals Hub sits under the More tab. Mealime said you can plan meals and make shopping lists there without shopping at those stores.

If you'd rather keep those recipes in an app you choose, here's how to save one into Good Fork:

  1. Open the recipe on safeway.com or albertsons.com in your phone's browser.

  2. Tap Share.

  3. Choose Good Fork from the share sheet.

Good Fork imports the recipe and formats it so it's easy to cook from. It shows up in your recipes, ready to add to this week's plan. Rebuilding a full collection takes a while, so start with the dinners you make most often.

Is Meals Hub a good replacement?

That mostly comes down to where you buy groceries. If you already shop at an Albertsons Companies store, Meals Hub is the easiest move, since it has the same recipes and connects to your grocery order at no cost. If you shop somewhere else, you'd be planning dinners inside a grocery app built around a store you don't use, and some people will find that awkward.

What to look for in a Mealime replacement

We loved Mealime for three years. Its recipe library was strong and the recipes were easy to follow. We also ran into a few limits along the way, and they make a useful checklist for whatever app you pick next.

  • A library you'd actually cook from. This was Mealime's best feature. Look at how many recipes an app includes and whether they're written clearly enough to follow on a weeknight.

  • Importing your own recipes. We could never bring our own recipes into Mealime and have them formatted well. If you cook from blogs and TikTok, make sure the app can import them cleanly.

  • Separate accounts for everyone at home. We shared one Mealime login between the two of us, which made planning and shopping together harder than it needed to be. An app that gives each person their own account and a shared plan and list avoids that.

  • Room to change a recipe. We often wanted to adjust recipes and didn't have the tools for it. Check whether you can swap ingredients and scale servings.

  • A way to get your data out. After this shutdown, it's fair to ask before you spend months building a collection.

Why we built Good Fork

Good Fork is the app we wanted after working around those limits. You can import recipes from websites and social media or snap a page from a cookbook, and Good Fork formats them for cooking. Each person in your household gets their own account while you plan the week together and shop from one grocery list. When a recipe doesn't quite fit how you eat, Remix helps you change it.

Our own recipe catalog is still small, and we're adding to it. If Mealime's library was what you loved most, that matters. In the meantime you can import from anywhere, and we feature several food blogs we cook from ourselves.

Good Fork is available on iPhone starting October 22, 2026, and Android is coming soon.
